December - Land Conservation

What is land conservation?
Land conservation is the act of protecting, managing and restoring nature including wildlife, ecosystems, land forms, soil, and water.

Why should we conserve our lands?
We should conserve our lands to protect them from being over used, preventing wastefulness of our natural resources, and for the health of our planet. If we didn’t conserve our lands, many habitats and ecosystems would be destroyed, species would go extinct, and we would run out of resources.

What are conservationists?
Conservationists are people who work to conserve lands many ways. Some go out and manage lands themselves, and others try to help make laws to protect nature.

What can we do to help conserve land?
We can help conserve land by throwing our trash in trash cans, recycling, volunteering for land management projects (i.e. trail builds, etc.), and not trespass in forests where people are not supposed to go.

Activity
Visit a park and observe how it is managed and preserved. Try to find as much wildlife as you can there, and see how many people utilize the park. Help clean up the park by picking up trash when you see it.
